Welcome Back!

Welcome back to TCU!

We are so excited to welcome the incoming students and the returning students of our Horned Frog family back. TCU is full of great activities. One of those great activities is the Outdoor Center in the Rec.

The Outdoor Center offers lots of adventures – the climbing wall, adventure trips, equipment rental and even team building exercises.

The rock wall is a 30 x 35 foot climbing wall staffed by TCU students. No prior experience is needed to climb and all equipment is provided. And the greatest part about the climbing wall – it’s FREE! The climbing wall also hosts events such as Ladies’ Night, Movie Nights, and Rock Climbing Kickstarters to help you gain experience on the rock wall. You should go check it out! You can find the hours here.

The Adventure Trip Program is a program where you can go rock climbing, kayaking or backpacking in areas such as Palo Duro Canyon, Wichita Wildlife Refuge,  and the Grand Canyon! This semester, we’re excited to announce the addition of “luxury” camping trips (camping in cabins as opposed to tents) and even a ski trip to Angel Fire, New Mexico.  To sign up for an adventure trip, just stop by the front office of the rec and tell them you want to sign up for that trip. You’ll fill out some paperwork and you’ll be on your way to a fun weekend! Check out our fall schedule here.

You can rent Stand Up Paddleboards, canoes, tents, backpacks, stoves, canoes, almost anything you can imagine that pertains to the outdoors. You can also chat with the staff to figure out the best route to take on your backpacking trip or where to rock climb for your particular level. Rental rates can be found here.

Team Building Courses are the newest addition to the Outdoor Center. These will take place at Fort Worth Country Day School, located just off of Bryant Irvin. Outdoor Center leaders will supervise your team’s experience and help you bond. This is offered for faculty, staff, sororities, fraternities, and even a group of friends. Rates vary based on number of participants and length of the course. Contact c.potter@tcu.edu for more information. This is a great way to get to know yourselves and your peers better!

Stop by and take advantage of all our amenities today! If you have any other questions or concerns about any of the areas, you can chat with one of the staff members and they can help you out.

Check out the next blog post (“Meet the Staff”) to see who to talk to!
