TCU’s Art on Deck at The Rec

We will have our inaugural Skateboard Deck Art competition and exhibition on March 7, 2025. 

Call for Entries are open through February 7, 2025. Up to 20 artists (TCU Students only) will be accepted into the exhibition. Board will be provided free of charge. The theme for this first year will be centered around the topic of “TCU and/or Recreation”. We will have awards for:
Best of Show (1st, 2nd and 3rd)
Fan Favorite Winner

Prize Information

  • Trophies for each award
  • TCU Prize Pack from the Office of the Chancellor and President
  • TCU Campus Recreation Prize Pack
  • The Point Skate Shop Prize Pack from Drew Dorbritz, Owner, The Point Skate Shop, Ft. Worth
  • Each artist will receive a Nike Backpack courtesy of BSN Sports

Some Details and Rules

  • Must be a registered TCU student in good standing.
  • Competition Date: March 7. Winners announced at 2PM.
  • Registration deadline: February 7
  • Free to enter and a blank board will be provided free of charge
  • Artwork should be on the underside of the board. The ends of the board should curve away from the viewer. Artwork should be in vertical (tall) format.
  • Completed Board Submission Deadline: February 28 by Noon
  • Selected artists will be contacted about board pickup via email.
  • Artists that received a board and do not submit a completed board or return the blank board will be fined $50
  • Artists will get to keep their boards after the competition and exhibition is over.
  • Board Dimensions: 31″ x 7.9″
  • Artists may want to protect their artwork on the boards with some type of varnish since they will be handled for setup and display and open to the public.
  • Mediums Accepted:
    • Hand Painted (acrylics, airbrush, spray cans, paint pouring, etc.)
    • Markers
    • Tape Pinstriping
    • Pyrography
    • Carving/Etching
    • No vinyl wrap or assemblage
  • By submitting artwork, you are guaranteeing you hold the rights to everything in it and it does not contain any copyrighted material, including imagery/copy found on the internet.
  • By participating, each artist grants TCU Campus Recreation and Wellness Promotion permission to use his/her name, likeness or comments for publicity purposes without payment of additional consideration, except where prohibited by law.
  • No inappropriate content: The artwork should not contain an inappropriate, illegal activity, indecent, obscene, hateful or defamatory material.
  • Deck will be on display in the lobby of The Rec from March 3- March 10. Public Vote will be from March 3 – March 7 at close.
