Lap Swimming will follow a circular pattern, swimming on the right-hand side of the lane at all times except to pass. Please try to pass another swimmer at the wall.
What’s the difference between a “lap” and a “length”?
A length is the distance from one wall to other in the pool. A lap is two lengths of the pool.
• One length is 25 yards
• Two lengths is one lap (50 yards)
How many laps are in mile? In competitive swimming, the “mile” event in a meet is 1650 yards.
• 25 Yard Configuration: 66 Lengths/33 Laps is a swimming mile = 1650 yards
• 25 Yard Configuration: 70.4 Lengths/35.2 Laps is a technical mile = 1760 yards
