AFAA GFI Prep Course: Fall 2025

Course Details

  • The Fall 2025 AFAA Prep Course will run from 9/16 – 10/30.
  • Meeting times are Tuesday/Thursday from 3:30-5:00p
  • Registration will be open from 8/18 – 9/10. Registration instructions below.
  • Course is open to members of the TCU community (students, faculty, staff)

Course Overview:

This 6 week long course is designed to prepare you take the AFAA Group Fitness Instructor exam as well as get you confident leading a class. This class does not certify you as a group fitness instructor; you must still pass the GFI exam. This is a twice per week, in-person course paired with online content. Students will progress through the online content on their own, then come to class for content discussion and practical application of concepts and strategies.

2 Options for Registration:

  1. In-Person + Online course:
    • One exam voucher for the AFAA GFI exam, plus one retake voucher
    • Online access to the entire AFAA GFI course materials
    • A spot in the in-person course taught here at the Rec Center
    • ***Recommended if you want to teach Cycle or a Strength format
  2. In-Person only
    • A spot in the in-person course taught here at the Rec Center (AFAA exam not included)
    • ***Recommended if you want to teach Pilates, Yoga, or Barre
    • Why should I take this course if it doesn’t certify me in what I want to teach? Being a good Group Fitness Instructor is more than sequencing exercises and putting together a great playlist. Even if you don’t take the AFAA exam, participating in the course will equip you with skills you may not necessarily get from other certification courses (you still need those certifications, but they’re just one part of the equation!)
